I am a professor of geology in the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences at the University of California, Davis. I specialize in using the recent geologic record and geomorphology to understand earthquakes, tectonic processes and the mechanics of deformation. My students and I apply field observations, high-resolution topography, and a variety of geochronological techniques. Much of our work takes place in my home state of California, where we are surrounded by stunning landscapes built by active tectonics.
